Rainbow Valley, located in the Cordillera de Domeyko, is one of the most fascinating geological treasures of the Atacama Desert. Located 90 km from San Pedro, this site dazzles with mountains displaying shades of green, red, yellow, ochre and white, the result of the natural oxidation of minerals such as iron, copper and sulfur that rise to the surface.

❓ Where is Rainbow Valley?
It is located in the Cordillera de Domeyko, 90 km from San Pedro de Atacama, in northern Chile. It is an area of unique geological formations thanks to the diversity of colors displayed by its hills.
🌈 What causes the colors of Rainbow Valley?
The natural oxidation of minerals present in the rock: iron (producing reds, ochres and oranges), copper (greens and turquoises), sulfur (yellows) and clays (whites, grays and lilacs). This combination creates a natural palette that blends in visible layers across the hills.
🗿 Does the tour include a visit to petroglyphs?
Yes. We visit the Yerbas Buenas Petroglyphs, an archaeological site with approximately 300 petroglyphs carved between 2,000 and 5,000 years ago by the pre-Columbian peoples of the Andean highlands.
🚶♂️ Is it a physically demanding tour?
No. It's a low-difficulty walk, ideal for all ages. The route is short and includes frequent breaks to take in the landscape and the geological details.

No. Entrance fees are included in the price of the tour.
🧳 What should I bring to Rainbow Valley?
Water, comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a camera. For the AM tour, we also recommend a light jacket, as mornings can be cold.
🚻 Are there restrooms available during the tour?
Yes, there are restrooms at the entrance to Yerbas Buenas.
🕘 What is the best time to take this tour?
Both times are recommended. In the morning (AM), the colors are sharper thanks to the direct light and clean air. In the afternoon (PM), the reddish tones intensify with the sunset. The choice depends on your overall itinerary and preferences.
